Play.com Book Reseller Complaints and Reviews

Fraud And Cheating Customers

2010

On 29th September 2009 I purchased a book through a reseller on play.com, reassured despite not knowing the reseller (bestvaluestore) by play.com’s fair trade guarantee that my consumer rights would be protected.

My credit card was debited immediately to the tune of 53 Euros. 6 weeks later, despite attempting every possible complaint procedure on play.com several times, I have heard nothing from either the reseller or play.com. Play.com’s helpline is permanently offline and there is no email address to write to.

You simply have to select your product and write up your complaint directly on the site, but I have received no contact whatsoever. In my view, this has gone beyond incompetence and now constitutes fraud, but I do not know how I can proceed with an online purchase as Play.com is based in Luxembourg and I live in Portugal. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi there

Have you tried calling their customer support team? If you are in Portugal you just need to call 0044 534 877 595 and request specifically to speak with the PlayTrade team. I have called them in the past about PlayTrade orders and found them to be very helpful.

Hope this helps.

I have had a similar experience.

It feels like fraud. I’m not going to use them again and I recommend that nobody else does. I ordered a box set of DVDs at a cost of 90 Euros as a Christmas present on the 1st of December 2009. As of today, the 25th of Feb 2010, nothing. I have e.mailed them several times and no response. Their phone number displayed on their website doesn’t work. It seems that they are un-accountable.

This may be of use.

This company uses several different names. It appears they use all sorts of loopholes. They trade via Luxembourg and Jersey, that way they avoid tax and probably a few other things like business transparency etc. I don’t know if there is any EU consumer protection body that can be contacted to make them post a phone number on their website that actually works or oblige them to respond to customer complaints.
